Former Cheshire Academy Standout Alexis Holmes ’18 Wins Big 10 Track Title

Former Cheshire Academy standout Alexis Holmes ’18 won the 400-meter dash for Penn State on Saturday at the Big 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Holmes’ time of 52.14 was a school record and currently ranks fourth in the nation. She also placed fifth in the 200 with a 23.74 mark.

“For Alexis to win the 400 title in her first Big Ten meet; I’m really proud of her,” said head coach John Gondak in a press release.

Holmes won the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational earlier this month with a time of 52.58.

At Cheshire Academy, Holmes earned Gatorade Connecticut Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year honors, a first in school history. She set meet records at the NEPSAC Division III outdoor championship in the 100 (12.63), 400 (53.95) and 200 (24.86). She also set a meet record in the 400 at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a time of 51.21, the 7th fastest mark in U.S. history.
