University of North Carolina sophomore Emma Trenchard '17 was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defender of the Year on Wednesday, May 1, in a vote of the league's coaches.
Trenchard was a first-team All-ACC selection this year and picked up 22 ground balls along with 16 caused turnovers and six ground balls. She also was named to the ACC Championship All-Tournament team after the Tar Heels won the title on Sunday, April 28, against top seeded Boston University.
At Loomis, Emma was a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, and she captained all three teams her senior year. She was named top female athlete in her class as a junior and a senior, and she was a two-time First-Team U.S. Interscholastic Lacrosse Association All-American high school lacrosse player.
In her freshman year at North Carolina, Emma started all 21 games, earned an ACC Defensive Player of the Week nod, and was named to the Inside Lacrosse Women's All Rookie Team, the ACC All-Tournament Team, the ACC All-Academic team, and the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Trenchard and the rest of the UNC women's lacrosse team will take part on the first round of the NCAA championship on May 10, and the selection show will be help at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.
