The Governors earned their second consecutive New England Prep School Class B Championship with a 1-0 double overtime win over Rivers. The Rivers keeper and a crossbar kept the Govs off the scoreboard. St. Luke's 2011 NEPSAC Girls' Soccer Class C Champions
Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Soccer team.
NEPSAC Class C Champions...That was the goal for both St. Luke's and Brewster Academy heading in to the 11:00 a.m. Class C New England Championship game on Sunday at Pomfret School. Both teams came to Pomfret fresh off thrilling NEPSAC Semi-Final games as St. Luke's defeated St. Mark's 2-1 and Brewster defeated Greens Farms Academy 1-0, both on Saturday afternoon. The toll those games had taken on both teams was obvious as the game started off sluggish and sloppy with both teams giving away the ball frequently, neither side able to build any consistent offensive from the back through the midfield. St. Luke's had the three best opportunities of the half spread across a ten minute period. Caroline Parsons '13 took a free kick from 22 yards out that bounced off the crossbar, Anne Troy '12 found herself on the receiving end of a St. Luke's cross but her header found the post instead of the netting, and Salma Anastasio '14 was stopped cold on a breakaway by Brewster keeper Danielle Tidd '13. The teams went into the break tied at 0-0 with St. Luke's holding the advantage in shots at 8-3.
