Cheshire Academy Beats Choate for 2011 New England Championship!

On the evening of November 18, under the lights of Simosa field, Cheshire’s football team played Choate in a bowl game that would determine whether or not the Cats could complete their undefeated season and walk away with a New England Championship. The game, nicknamed the “Backyard Brawl,” pitted two local schools that had not played against each other in thirty years. Choate — a school three times the size of Cheshire — came into the game with a 7-2 record, hoping to spoil CA’s run at perfection.

Pingree Wins 2010 Norm Walker Bowl

The Pingree fans came out in droves to witness the nail-biting game against worthy opponents from Rivers School on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. Thanks to the generosity of the Kraft family, owners of the New England Patriots, the two teams were able to face off on the same field as their professional heroes. A play in the last few seconds put the Highlanders ahead to clinch the NEPSAC Class C Championship Bowl after their no-loss season. With less than a minute left and the game tied, Rivers set up for the goal kick which was blocked by Kyle Jamerson and then picked up by Nick Antenucci for an 80+ yard return and a touchdown. You don't get more exciting than that! The team was vying for their second NEPSAC title in the Norm Walker Bowl. Yeah, Highlanders!

Cheshire Academy Wins 2008 Austin Bowl

The date: Saturday, November 15, 2008.

The place: Northfield Mount Hermon School, Massachusetts.

The game: Cheshire Academy vs. Tilton School in the 2008 NEPSAC Austin Bowl.

The result: CA wins, 14-7. The Cheshire Academy defense made a strong statement early in the game, and continued in that direction all day long by holding a very athletic Tilton squad to only 7 points. The defense held Tilton on its first three plays and made them punt from deep in their own end. The Cheshire offense, led by Travis Hurd ’10 and a great effort by the offensive line (Cal Smith ’09, Brett Stuart ‘09, Ian Wiggins ’10, Corey Schneider ’09, and Devin Dwyer ’09), drove down the field with its first possession, and Hurd ran the ball in from thirty yards to put CA up 6-0. The first half continued to be a defensive struggle with CA dominating the field position game and stymieing the Tilton offense. Joshua Adams ’09 and David Plaskon ’09 each had an interception on the day, and Adams also recovered a fumble during the contest. The CA offense was able to punch another score over during the third quarter with another Hurd run, followed by Adams’ spectacular catch for the two point conversion making the score 14-0. Tilton was able to put a touchdown on the board in the fourth and late in the game drove down inside CA's 10 yard line, but the drive was thwarted by a Morgan Donohue ’10 sack with :21 seconds left that sealed the game. The fans were spectacular all day long (even in the rain), and the football team would like to express its thanks to all of those amazing players that have worn a CA uniform before them. They are very glad to represent that tradition with this win! A great follow-up event kept the buzz of the Austin victory going into the following week when representatives of the U.S. Army and Sportslink came to Cheshire to officially issue Joshua Adams his invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 3. In addition, the Chicago Bears, through team co-owner Patrick McCaskey CA ’68, sent an official resolution recognizing Adams and the rest of the team on their outstanding season.
