This past weekend, Rivers won the New England Class “C” Boys’ Tennis Championship on its home court. With strong performances from top to bottom, the Red Wings beat Beaver Country Day in the Saturday semi-final, and then Pingree on Sunday to earn the tournament championship.
There was outstanding leadership all weekend. Co-captain Alex Ginsberg ’10 won his singles match on Saturday to help defeat Beaver. On Sunday, TJ Moor ’12 won his singles match in straight sets, and Evan Gallagher ’11 also won his match. Marco Eberth ’10 slammed home a match-winning overhead to ultimately clinch the championship.
Coach Gennady Burakovsky said that he had high hopes for the team from the very beginning of the year.
“I knew the first time I met with the team that they were dedicated and hard-working, and eager to put themselves in a position to qualify for the tournament and also make a mark in the ISL standings,” he said. “Seemingly every week this season someone else stepped up and won a crucial set to secure a win for us, and that was terrific to see.”
