For NMH wrestlers, the third time's the charm—but then again, so were the first and the second times. Last weekend, the wrestling team won its third New England championship in a row, while also hosting the tournament, which brought 47 schools and approximately 230 wrestlers to campus.
As was expected, the team championship was a tightly contested race between NMH, Belmont Hill, and St. Paul's School. Each of the three teams held the lead at different times throughout the tournament, but in the end NMH prevailed. NMH wrestlers Matt Libby '12 and Henry Anderson '13 each won individual championships in their weight classes, and NMH entered five competitors in the final round, the most of any school in the tournament.
The tournament began with NMH wrestler David Coleman '13 singing the national anthem, and by the end of the weekend, seven of NMH's wrestlers had qualified for the National Prep wrestling tournament, which will take place at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania next weekend.
"Nothing changes for us," says head coach Rob Buyea. "We'll practice as usual. We'll spend a little time going over situations that we need to be better in, but the kids going this weekend have been preparing for it and expecting it for a long time. They're ready."
