The boys' and girls' Nordic NEPSAC Championships were held Wednesday, February 22 at Vermont Academy. Some of the schools competing included Andover, Cardigan Mountain, Dublin, Gould, Holderness NMH, Proctor, St. Paul's School, and Vermont Academy. The Holderness girls' team earned the NEPSAC title. The boys' team came in 4th place. It was beautiful spring-like skiing with many of the racers in shorts and t-shirts. In the morning the skiers had a classic 5K race. In the afternoon, a 3K freestyle sprint relay was held. Academic Dean and Nordic coach, Peter Durnan writes about the girls relay and the win below.
Congratulations to the girls’ team for securing another NEPSAC Championship. There were all kinds of highlights Wednesday, but first among them was the performance of the girls’ relay team. In the morning, the girls did admirably, placing three in the top ten and Grace Mumford just behind in 12th. The girls knew that they would have to win the race to stay ahead of Gould Academy, then they did just that. Our youngster Amanda Vansant scrambled and kept things close through the first lap. Then it was time for Rebecca Feist and Abby Wiseman to seize and hold the lead. Thanks to proud father Rich Wiseman for these excellent shots. See the whole run of his photos here.
