East Providence, RI—The Providence Country Day School Girls Varsity Basketball Team clinched its second consecutive NEPSAC Class E Championship Saturday with a nail-biter victory over The Dublin School, 52-51. It was a tough battle from the opening buzzer—each team up by as many as eight points at one time or another. The Knights led 26-25 at the half and traded leads up to the final seconds.
With under a minute to go the Knights had some ground to make up. They fought hard to decrease their deficit to one point when Maggie Rock ’18 made her foul shots. 51-50. The Knights defense forced a turnover and Coach Renee called a timeout.
With five seconds left in the game Raquel Fitzpatrick ’17 received the inbound, made a move and attacked the basket down the center of the lane. When the defense collapsed on her she dropped a pass to the left side to a cutting Kylyn Marshall ’17 who finished the play with the game winning layup. Time expired and the Knights claimed the NEPSAC Class E Championship for the second year in a row!
