Rivers’ varsity ski teams headed north to Shawnee Peak in Maine for the NEPSAC Championship races and returned home with the boys’ title for the second straight year. This year, however, they earned the Class B title, having moved up from Class C where they’ve competed in the past.
Co-captains Tom Barker '13 and Dan Corcoran '13 were joined by Tom Corcoran ’15, Ben Freeland ’16, and Steve Richlen ’15. All five boys had to do well – three each in the giant slalom and slalom races – in order to earn enough points for the title.
Barker and Richlen earned All-New England for their efforts in the giant slalom while Freeland came away with All-New England for both giant slalom and slalom. Lindsay Burroughs ’13 also earned All-New England for her performance in the giant slalom on the girls’ team, which finished eighth overall at the championship event.
“This was the ultimate team effort,” commented Director of Athletics Jim McNally. “Each boy’s performance was essential in order to win the title.”
