2015 South Kent Soccer Secures Top Drawer Soccer National Title with NEPSAC Championship!

November 17, 2015

The 2015-2016 South Kent Prep Soccer team had a regular season to remember. The boys remained undefeated to achieve an untarnished record of 19-0, securing South Kent's 10th Western New England Regular Season Champion title. Though they faced many teams that were ranked well and stacked with skilled players, the chemistry of the South Kent team has stayed strong and allowed very few mistakes on the pitch. Even when a rare defensive error occurred, Detre Bell and Richard Glemawu stood strong, as shown by their unbelievable collection of 12 shutouts throughout the season. With the combination of skilled scorers, strong defense and a pair of top notch goalkeepers, the prep soccer team had everything they needed to win the NEPSAC Class B Championship, and they did just that. With the win, not only did Coach Owen Finberg get his milestone 200th win, but the South Kent team was awarded the National Title by Top Drawer Soccer.

Crazy Redemption: Lawrence Academy Boys' Soccer Wins Championship

Windsor, CT –
Aerosmith's Steven Tyler sang it succinctly: "You got to lose to know how to win." Maybe so, but there's still the matter of actually winning after a major loss that's the hard part of the redemption story.

"I don't know," was Head Coach Colin Igoe's honest answer when asked how his club was able to traverse the same road  twice  and, despite losing to South Kent School on penalty kicks in the 2013 NEPSAC final, wind their way through the ISL and NEPSAC in order to beat the Cardinals on PKs today in the 2014 Class B championship game.

It’s not untypical for a few students attending school in New England to head to the Midwest for an alternative to the educational opportunities offered in the Northeast. Indeed, the likes of the University of Chicago, Northwestern and Notre Dame are all lauded for their fine academics. But in the rolling hills of Ohio, just northeast of Columbus, a small school is fast becoming a destination for student-athletes from NEPSAC schools looking for great academics and an opportunity to have an impact on the national collegiate soccer scene.
