Landmark Boys Varsity Cross Country Team Takes 2014 EIL and NEPSAC Championships

BEVERLY, MA – The Landmark School Boys Varsity Cross Country team continues to enjoy an undefeated season this year. The team took the Eastern Independent League (EIL) championship on Nov. 1st and then followed up with a first place finish on Nov. 8th at the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Championship. NEPSAC is comprised of 179 preparatory schools across New England.
At this weekend’s championship race, Landmark’s top seven runners competed in the Division 4 heat made up of 160 runners representing over 30 schools. Landmark earned the top prize with finishers in the 4th, 5th, and 7th positions.
Landmark students Peter O’Conner came in 4th, Mark Jaklitsch took 5th, and Kevin Richardson took 7th for a combined score of 58. The second place school was Chase Collegiate with 98 points, and in third place was Millbrook School with 101 points.
Landmark students O’Connor, Jaklitsch, Richardson, and teammate Sebastian Abate were also named New England All Stars and will compete in the NEPSAC All Star meet next week.
Brook Sumner, Landmark School Athletic Director said, “This win is a first for Landmark School. Our cross-country program has grown greatly over the past few years. Coaches Tom O’Riordan and Kevin Robertson should be commended for extraordinary leadership. The team worked hard all season long, set impressive goals for themselves, and practiced day in and day out with grit and determination. They have earned this recognition.”
